Why do mosquitoes keep returning in Central Florida? The answer is often in the water, shade and conditions around your home.
Explore what matters in your yard
These container-breeding mosquitoes bite during the day. Plant saucers, water trapped in toys, tarps, clogged gutters and pool covers are worth inspecting. Removing an accessible breeding source can reduce a recurring source of mosquitoes.
Daytime biting is a useful clue, not proof of the species or of a breeding site on your property. Nearby yards can contribute too. Inspection helps distinguish conditions you can correct from sources beyond your fence.
Culex mosquitoes are generally most active from dusk to dawn. The southern house mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus, often develops in water rich in organic material, including some drains, ditches and neglected containers.
Tell us when bites occur, where water remains and which outdoor areas you use. Those observations help focus the inspection; biting time alone cannot identify a mosquito.
INCLUDED IN BOTH SERVICE OPTIONS
Insect growth regulator (IGR) treatment is included in both Pestmaster mosquito service options. IGRs interrupt immature mosquito development, helping prevent the emergence of adults. The technician selects suitable treatment sites and follows the product label.
Emptying or removing water-holding containers remains the first practical step. For suitable water sources that cannot be drained or covered, larval control can complement treatment of adult resting areas.
Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) is another type of larvicide that targets larvae; it does not kill biting adults. Bti and IGRs are different tools. The included service described here uses IGR.
A FLORIDA YARD CHANGES WITH THE WEATHER
Warm, wet conditions can accelerate mosquito development. Spring rains and repeated summer downpours can refill small containers; irrigation can maintain water sources between storms.
Inspect drainage before the wetter months and recheck containers after rain. Cooler weather can slow activity, but the calendar alone does not establish that a yard is free of mosquitoes. Base follow-up on actual conditions and the service plan, rather than assuming every property needs the same seasonal schedule.

Aedes mosquitoes can transmit dengue. Florida also monitors West Nile virus activity. Reducing breeding sources and preventing bites matter alongside yard treatment; a mosquito service does not guarantee protection from infection.
The Florida Department of Health report for August 30–September 5, 2026 records 111 locally acquired dengue cases in Florida during 2026, including 95 in Hillsborough County and 1 in Orange County. It also lists year-to-date West Nile antibody-positive sentinel chicken totals of 11 in Hillsborough and 6 in Orange. These bird surveillance results are not human case counts and do not establish infection at a particular property.

A newly filled container or an overlooked shaded area can change where mosquitoes gather. Share recent irrigation changes, standing water and the outdoor areas where bites are most disruptive.
The four-application program schedules visits 15 days apart. These are scheduled applications; confirm the terms and price of any additional service before it is performed.
